Blessing of Hands Ceremony -- Anatomy Lab Introduction

Medical Students Welcomed at Introductory Ceremony to the Anatomy Laboratory

On May 14, 2025, the Adventist School of Medicine East-Central Africa (ASOME) held its solemn and foundational Introductory Ceremony to the Anatomy Laboratory. Held directly within the Anatomy Laboratory, the event marked a profound milestone for the medical students as they prepared to step into a crucial phase of their medical training.

The ceremony balanced academic rigor with spiritual reverence through several key moments:

  • Spiritual Foundations: A special "Blessing of Hands" led by Pastor Makurumeza Clement of the AUCA Church.

  • Academic Insights: Dr. Stephen Waterbrook, Dean of ASOME, reflected on the sacred responsibility of anatomy and medical students.

  • The Cadaveric Oath: In a deeply respectful and defining moment, students recited the Cadaveric Oath, guided by General Surgeon Dr. Abebe Mihret, reinforcing the ethics, dignity, and respect required in anatomical study.

Students received a special gift to mark the milestone and the afternoon concluded with a practical orientation to the facility led by Mrs. Sylvia Santos of the ASOME Anatomy Department, ensuring students are fully prepared and equipped for their upcoming laboratory sessions.
